Constitution of The OSB/WRMS Alumni Association

Revised June 23rd, 2012.

1. Name.
This association shall be known as the OSB/WRMS Alumni Association.

2. Meetings.
Meetings of the association shall be held:
(a) Every two years or in the event of special circumstances, at an interval of three years;
(b) for a period of three days;
(c) On the weekend prior to Canada Day Weekend, if at all possible.

3. PLACE:
The place of meeting shall, if at all possible, be at theW. Ross MacDonald School. Otherwise, the location of the meeting shall be at the board s discretion.

4. OFFICERS:
The officers of the association shall be:
(a) an honorary president who shall be the superintendent of The W. Ross MacDonald School, or a school official who has the best interests of the association at heart
(b) the immediate past president
(c) a president who, except in the case of an emergency, will have served as both second vice-president and vice-president
(d) a first vice president
(e) a second vice president
(f) a secretary
(g) a treasurer
A second vice-president shall be elected at each meeting of the association. The secretary and treasurer shall be elected at alternating meetings of the association, and shall not serve any more than two consecutive terms.

5. EXECUTIVE:
The executive shall consist of the elected officers and the chairpersons of the standing committees who shall exercise in the interval between meetings all the powers and prerogatives of the association as a body.

6. STANDING COMMITTEES:
(a) membership
(b) program
(c) recreation
The chairpersons of these committees shall be appointed by the president upon taking office.

7. MEMBERSHIP
Allformer students of the Ontario School for the Blind/W. Ross MacDonald School shall be eligible for membership. A membership fee shall be payable at the time of each general meeting and the amount of the fee shall be determined by a majority vote of the executive.

8. EXECUTIVE QUORUM:
The executive quorum shall consist of five members of the executive committee.

9. GENERAL QUORUM
A quorum of the association at its general meetings shall consist of twenty-five members. In the event of a tie vote, the voice of the presiding officer shall decide.

10. DISCIPLINE:
Should three members in good standing become convinced that any member of the association is bringing discredit to either the school or the association, and if they then submit to the secretary written charges of such, these charges shall be examined by a discipline committee consisting of the executive. This discipline committee shall examine the evidence, and shall have full power to render final decision.

11. OBJECTS:
The objects of the association shall be:
(a) to afford regular opportunities for reunions of the former students of the Ontario School for the Blind/W. Ross MacDonald School;
(b) to offer a program at such reunions consisting of papers, addresses, workshops, and discussions on problems confronting the members of the association in their chosen calling:
(c) to further in every way the welfare of the School and its pupils, and to open and maintain a channel of cordial intercourse between the school administration and the Alumni Association.

12. AMENDMENTS:
Amendments to this constitution shall require the support of two thirds of the members of the association present at the time of voting thereon, and it is further provided that proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the secretary on the first of June prior to the general meeting, in order that ample time may be given for careful consideration.

1972 CONSTITUTION OF THE Alumni ASSOCIATION OF THE ONTARIO SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND

REVISED JULY 9, 1972

1. NAME:
This association shall be known as the Alumni Association of the Ontario School for the Blind.

2. MEETINGS:
Meetings of the association shall be held:
(a) Every two years or in the event of special circumstances at an interval of three years;
(b) for a period of three days;
(c) within two weeks of the end of the school term;

3. PLACE:
The place of meeting shall be at the Ontario School for the Blind.

4. OFFICERS:
The officers of the association shall be:
(a) an honorary president who shall be the superintendent of The Ontario School for the Blind:
(b) the immediate past president
(c) a president
(d) a first vice president
(e) a second vice president
(f) a secretary treasurer
These officers, from (b) - (f) inclusive, shall be elected at each meeting of the association: and, it is further provided that the secretaryship shall be permanently associated with some member of the staff of the Ontario School for the Blind.
In the event that a suitable member of the association is not available to fill this office, another staff member of the school, either present or past, may be elected by the membership at the next regular meeting or, if necessary, be appointed by the executive subject to the approval of the membership at the next general meeting, and he shall have both voice and vote at meetings of the executive committee, and at general meetings.

5.EXECUTIVE:

A membership fee shall be payable at the time of each general meeting and the amount of the fee determined by a majority vote of the members. A member unable to attend a general meeting may keep his membership active by payment of the fee to the secretary treasurer.

9. GENERAL QUORUM
A quorum of the association at its general meetings shall consist of twenty-five members. In the event of a tie vote, the voice of the presiding officer shall decide.

Should three members in good standing become convinced that any member of the association is conducting himself in such a way as to bring discredit upon the school or association, and if they then submit to the secretary written charges of such, these charges shall be examined by a discipline committee appointed by the executive. The honorary president shall be an ex officio member of the committee. This committee shall examine the evidence and shall have full power to render final decision.

(b) to offer a program at such reunions consisting of papers, addresses and discussions on problems confronting the members of the association in their chosen calling:
(c) to further in every way the welfare of the Ontario School for the Blind and its pupils, and to open and maintain a channel of cordial intercourse between the school administration the graduates and ex pupils.

12. AMENDMENTS:
Amendments to this constitution shall require the support of two thirds of the members of the association present at the time of voting thereon, and it is further provided that proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the secretary on the first day of the general meeting, but they shall not be voted upon till the last day of such meeting in order that ample time may be given for careful consideration.
